I see plugy as what single player should have been. I think there's no shame in using it, most of the d2 single player streamers use it. It does make the game easier by being able to use gear found on other characters, but you can just as easily decide not to do that because there's the individual stash and the shared stash.
Copy the two files directly into your Diablo II directory. In your PlugY.ini file, set the line “DllToLoad=” to “DllToLoad=D2MultiRes_113c”. The other settings should be configured to your liking. Note that when using PlugY with D2MultiRes, the PlugY setting for /players in PlugY.ini must be disabled by setting ‘NBPlayersByDefault=0

After installation (just moving the required folder into the PlugY folder) I can no longer access my character. All I get is the "Unable to enter game. Bad inventory data." message. Now here's the interesting part. I can use any other character just fine, and the mod is working perfectly. I can even create new characters with no problem whatsoever.
simply clicked the PD2 game file to update to season 2 Run PlugY as usual I can make new chars and access old chars, all with the same shared stash. So hopefully a nice seamless transfer. Just started a new MA assassin. Excited about the changes. Edit - using PlugY 11.02 btw

About PlugY bad inventory data bug. Delete your shared stash in Save folder in Diablo 2 directory and you should be good to go. This will delete all your shared stash items, but it cannot be helped. If you had any maps from S1 in a character, that's a delete aswell. A better solution that will not ruin your shared stash would be to roll back
Jan 8, 2008 · AHA! I poked around a little bit more and figured it out! I copied (not moved) the PlugY folder (located within the Mod PlugY folder) to the Diablo II folder, and used the PlugY.exe file located inside the Mod PlugY folder to open D2. I started the game up, loaded my character, and TADA! The mod appears to be working now.
Plugy has been known to corrupt the shared stash file and character files. It's highly recommended to backup your save folder regularly so you can restore it. I hate to say this, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone able to recover it once it's been corrupted. 2. whipowill.

Running D2SE didn't work for me after multiple tries, I just downloaded the stand alone version of plugy. As for the Act 5 lvl 33. you can just add -Act 5 att the end of your game location. On your D2 icon just right click it and select properties then it should have something like this in the location "C:\programfiles\diablo II\Diablo II.exe"

My PlugY is working, here's what I did: reinstalled D2 LoD into the x86 Program Files folder. reinstalled PD2. (should have) changed the default save path location to the new folder. marked every single .EXE file to run as Admin and as WinXP SP3 whenever possible. marked PD2 to run as Admin. Not saying it's perfect, but I was able to get to Act 2.

It’s still too early, really to 100% discount it yet until after release. SandBurger-11537. I don’t recall Diablo 3 having mod support either.
Just a heads up, as one of the compatibility fixes for Diablo 2 in 1.14, games are saved in a new location. They used to be saved in \Save, I believe. (Example C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Save). They are now in the "Saved Games" folder of the logged in user account. Default location on Vista+ is C:\Users\\Saved Games

NOTE Load Config will read the cfg.json in the same directory as the d2modmaker binary into the UI. NOTE Save Config will write cfg.json to the same directory as the d2modmaker binary.
